January 26, 2019 at 2 PM local time is the start of Winter Field Day 2019. The contest runs for 24 hours in which an entry can operate up to 12 hours. It's a test of emergency communications field preparedness under less than ideal conditions.

Last year we operated Winter Field Day from the red shed outside the EOC building. Weather was reasonably mild for January and everyone seemed to have fun in spite of some antenna issues. We expect to have those issues corrected and have 2 antennas available. Our plan is to work from the shed again this year in the 1-O category (outside) and exercise one or more of the OEM portable generators. Last year we came in second in New England in the 1-O category. Those of us operating "up north" received many comments of encouragement from those operating in warmer climates.

Members interested in operating or otherwise participating, should contact John K1LYP, who will head up the 2019 effort, with logistical support from Rob R1RCT, our Station Activities Manager. We expect to operate Saturday afternoon into early evening, and again Sunday morning.
