I'm a HRD user (pre-6.x release, so free). LOTW has changed it's logging url over the past few months several times and some logging programs can't keep up and in the case of HRD (pre-6.x) there doesn't seem to be a fix. So logging to LOTW has to be done manually (and there are perhaps a few other logging programs seeing the same result of uploading and downloading logs stopped working after 10/21/2014). Here's a fix (found on the web).

edit the hosts file in the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc folder (need to do this in admin mode and change from read only as well to do this). Add this to the list of hosts:
12.178.70.18 p1k.arrl.org

Save the file and make it read only. Launch your logging program and you'll have communication back to LOTW.

Steve,
I have HRD v5.0 and haven't had any issues uploading to LOIW.

I find that is is just easier to either upload my Cabrillo log, or if using my logging program copy the entries that I want to upload to an ADIF File and upload them with TQSL.

Works every time.

73,
It goes in fits and spurts. I can run a few months without issues then bang, they won't upload. The 'fix' for me that I found that I posted really only works on downloads not uploads... perhaps another activity meeting topic?
