ARRL 10 METER CONTEST - W1CTN - 11-18-2014

To all,
It appears Sweepstakes was a successful club activity.
If there is any interest the 10 ARRL 10 meter contest should also provide the same or hopefully a greater level of fun. It both SSB and CW so folks could operate the mode they prefer, or both.

Better temporary antennas would be needed, 10 meter yagis fixed or rotatable would be the way to go. They are small and effective.

Since it is a single band contest the club should consider using the linear amp, it would be like using a solid state amp as retuning would not be necessary with resonant antennas. It would be a pushbutton contest.

Our operators would have a real commanding signal.

Just my .02 cents

PS. It would also be time to migrate to N1MM Logger plus

RE: ARRL 10 METER CONTEST - KC1BAQ - 11-19-2014

Thanks, Dave. Good advice. John B said he'd supply the materials to build a 10M beam if someone is willing to organize a work party.

It appears that the club amp is wired for 220V. We'd either need to make a modification or use another amp.

Do you think we could unplug the oven in the kitchen and use that outlet?

Joe

RE: ARRL 10 METER CONTEST - K1RCT - 11-19-2014

I'm posting a Poll and hopefully signup Thread for the 10M Contest on the 13/14 of December (more info about the Contest here).

Since we do not have a meeting before the Contest, we could use this Forum to organize ourselves.

Please check the Forum for the Thread and respond.

RE: ARRL 10 METER CONTEST - W1CTN - 11-20-2014

Anyone up for a breakfast meeting this Saturday to discuss the 10 meter contest. I'll drive up to Wally since most of the members live up there.

Changing the amp back to 120v is not a big deal. Easy enough to do.
Only draws less then 12 amps when running 120v.

Hey Dave,

Count me in for Saturday breakfast. What time do you suggest? I'll throw Chick-fil-a out there as an option, but happy to meet wherever you decide.

Joe

I thought the amp was set for 120 VAC? I don't remember us having 220 at the Washington Street location. Rich? What say you?

Joe,
Lets see how many others are interested, but I would think around 8:30 - 9:00 would be a good time frame.

Saturday morning works for me.

Anyone else? If not post some availability. I'm sure we all can work a schedule.

John (N1GNV) has proposed Saturday 12/6 10:00AM for Beam Building.

RE: ARRL 10 METER CONTEST - W1CTN - 11-21-2014

Rob, Joe and any others....
Is it a problem to meet a little later on Saturday?
No later than 10 AM.
If it's too late we can reschedule.
I have an unscheduled dog delivery (my wife is a dog watcher) at 9AM sharp Saturday and my wife cannot be home for the delivery.
