I'm going to leave it in since we are not penalized for dupes (with an Electronic Log Submission).

Yes correct leave the dupes in. And Jim has a small score to add but not sure of how much.

A Pet Peeve In CW Contesting - N1API - 12-17-2014

You know one thing that I forgot to mention while we were talking about contesting. One of my biggest pet peeves is from contesters that use straight key, bugs or paddles to send CW rather than the macros from the contest program is the use of letters in place of numbers.
Example:
A for 1
T for 0
N for 9
So you could be going along and get someone who sends (in code - sound it out)
[Di-di-di-di-dit] [dah-dit] [dah-dit] [dah] [di-dah] [dah-dit] and you get this at 25 to 30 WPM.
They do this to save a few characters but how many times to they get the IMI (?) and keep repeating it until they finally figure out that unsuspecting station wants 019 because he does not know what a 599 "TAN" is, his section, locator, countries state locator? The dah-dit for nine has sort of become standard for the signal report, it's used widely in contesting, DXing and day-to-day signal reporting but the others, well they just throw me off especially in rapid fire exchange.
How does everyone else feel about this? (Especially want to hear from the experienced contesters.)

The letters used in CW are known as "cut numbers".
Cut numbers are widely used by experienced contest ops, especially European and South American contest ops.
5NN is the most popular use of cut numbers.
The use of cut numbers is just another thing to learn in contesting.
Since most casual ops do not use them in regular QSO's they are always a "wake up call" during a contest.
I can tell you from experience that contest ops who use cut numbers , the fast Eastern Europeans in particular, WILL NOT change their exchange for you. To them it's know it or move on because I just lost 4 other QSO's explaining it to you.
Contesting in many parts of the world is known as "RADIO SPORT". It is very competitive and those ops all want to be the best. It's a testosterone thing for them.

Now I know that the 559 really is 59 (hi hi).

Yep, Steve has been doing this for years. I've actually got a folder with contacts that I've had with him all the way back as far as 2004. Check his web page out he's got an interesting history, (if you work him on 10 meters get his 10-10 number). The page to his sound files are bookmarked in my favorites.
