N1API VHF Contest Results - N1API - 06-15-2015

Wow! A surprise opening on the end gave me a "respectable" score for a little gun. Stories after the results.

First of all the two best contacts were a C6 and a VP9 both on the first call. C6ATA was on 6 meters again this morning and he was a steady 59+ calling Europe. He was working I's SPs and others but I could not hear any of the calling stations. I heard him for almost an hour then moved off, he was STILL 59.

Up until about 0018 Sunday UTC when I worked N1ZN it had been a pretty dull contest with just the local New England States, some NY and NJ and one or two other quick contacts with the C6, and EM65 and EM62 station.

Then the band opened! Boy did it open. It seem like just about all NC, SC and some of AR were in there. And because many of the calling stations could not hear someone on their own frequency there were stations calling on top of each other on both CW and SSB. I did park up high in the band and called CQ and had a nice run of stations, some who I knew from 10 meters and some who must have known me as they answered by name. (I also learned that my radio has SSB and CW filters that I've never turned on!)

Two stations that I could not work, one which I heard was W0W. Not sure where he was and NT2A, Gene on Staten Island, NY. I need him for my county hunting log on SSB, (Richmond County).

So anyway I've picked up a few thing that I need for my county hunting log and now we'll see how the score comes out. I know I got one dupe and one station I worked on CW may have been wrong the first time I worked him. I came up with what checks as the call and FN31 but then going back later there was a station with a very similar 1 call and just the last letter was different in EM73. I know that one was correct. We'll see if the FN31 gets thrown out as a NIL.

That's my story, what's yours?
