Welcome to the new POTA forum
#1
Hi all,
I've been following the MARC POTA posts on the club reflector and I'd to learn more about "POTA".   Travel has been difficult for me recently so I'm wondering what the world of POTA has for a home bound guy.

We just started this new Forum area for POTA discussions.   Here we can have discussions, post info, store files, attachments, view pictures, "short videos", maps, and post schedules and share experiences. etc.

Posting is unlimited and open to all forum registered users  and replies  to any and all threads are encouraged. This is a thread based forum.  We ask that you just "stay on topic"  There are MANY other forum areas available here to enjoy as well.  Subscribe to this forum and it will send you an email instantly as soon as anything new appears here.   The email will have a "link" and all you have do is click on it to be brought right to this forum.

I'll start off with the following.   I live in a heavily forested area, in the shaddow of the Soap Stone Mountain.  I wonder if anyone has actiivated POTA from that place?   It's close to me (about a 2 minute drive).    Info below:

Soapstone Mountain, Elevation 1,033 ft.  1800 acres in Ellington, Somers, and Stafford, CT  Trails: 18 miles

Soapstone Mountain is the highlight of the 11 Shenipsit State Forest parcels.  The tower near the summit has been newly rebuilt in 2019 and is once again open for all to enjoy.  There are miles of trails to explore, picnic areas, and annual 24k and 6k races put on by the Shenipsit Striders.  Soapstone Mountain was the first land purchased for the Shenipsit State Forest in 1927 in order to build a fire lookout tower.

As a young 10 year old back in 1955, I climbed the old original Forest Ranger Tower (about a 3 mile hike from our property) and the view from the summit was spectacular !!

Has anyone operated from there yet  ??     73, Rich WA1TRY
