10-10 QSO Party Kickoff Net Scheduled
#4

Well it was quite a weekend. The band opened in Europe in the morning and then good propagation to much the rest of the world in the afternoon Saturday. Sunday had good propagation to Europe and the US but in the afternoon the band started to fade mid-afternoon.

But Saturday there were nice openings and big signals from the West Coast, Canada, Alaska and Hawaii. Sunday I worked a ZL station. While calling CQ Sunday morning it was like a DX Contest, I had stations from all over Europe calling me. I was getting all the weak EUs calling and some were hard to pull out. I also had an HZ station from Saudi Arabia call.

10-10's new method of submitting contest scores did not work for me. 10-10 wants all the electronic logs submitted via Cabrillo format at: http://hamclubs.info/scorer/ but when I put my log in it said that I had 285 QSOs in my log but none were good for the contest. I got my first hint that it was not working as expected when I tried to do a Logbook Of The World upload using the Cabrillo file generated by Win1010. I had to use the ADIF output for my Logbook Submission. I was afraid that their new experiment was not going to work and I've fired messages off to K4HAV who writes the Win1010 program and Dan KZ3T the QSO Party Manager. He said that there were a number of stations who had used the robot and had no issues. I sent him a screen shot of the error message I'm getting from the robot. He said that he sees a problem and it should be fixed soon. He's got both my and the club's logs as direct submissions. If you don't do electronic logging and log to paper or some other type of log you can still submit to him via email or regular paper log via mail. They are trying to get into the digital age with the contest submissions but I think that it's not going to work the way they want it.

I was afraid of this but did not want to be the naysayer but I think that there are going to be problems because of the nature of the information that is exchanged. A few examples I can think of is a station who has changed his call but 10-10 does not know about it. The robot will call the contact bad because the call and the 10-10 number do not match. I don't know if it takes into account the QTH, Name (especially spelling or correct name or nickname). Lets say that I give my name out Al but someone logs my full name Alan, does it count as bad information? Also QTH. I worked a station in Texas but he also gave me his club call which it an Alaskan Contest Station. Is it a bad QSO because I logged TX rather than AK? My upload to Club Log came back with a auto change from US to AK because of that.

Anyway here are the results of my efforts this weekend.
