I guess Oh My just about covers it! On 40 I felt like a little kid in a candy shop. The idea of putting a tuner in the coax sure helped! Where I was just about getting out of my own yard I was working Europe Africa and South America and the Caribbean and even did some calling and was being called by European Stations. I was hearing better than I got out on 40. I heard stations that I could not work. I quit about 15 minutes early cause it looked like I worked the band out on 20 meters and 15 was pretty dead. 15 did not perform well this weekend as you can see by the number of QSOs and 10 did not work at all with the exception of 2 QSOs. Even 20 was "crappy" and did not open well and closed way to early. 20 starts to close when the sun goes down. With the Solar Flux at 78, the A at 23 and K at 4 those are not good numbers not even for the low bands. It would have been nice to see how the dipole performed if the low bands were good. Even though we thought that it was directional in in the same direction as the beam it did not seem to matter. I think that it's probably got large figure 8 lobs with a small null at 180 degrees to the direction. I did find that the dipole works best on 40 when I retract the elements on the SteppIR. It seems that having them out RF comes back into the shack via the SteppIR coax. Depending on the direction that the dipole is facing I have to reduce output power out when I send RTTY I just get a mark tone and no diddle.
I had some good runs on 20 meters and also on 15 and a pretty good one on 40. I was left with 75 unsent QTCs but that was offset by receiving 180 QTCs from other stations. I won't win this but should show good in the standings. I ran into a couple of other club members, I hope there were more out there that had some fun this weekend.
