I was doing a little recon tonight on the 2014 high scorers in the 2A category. Here is what I've learned so far...

Looks like some other folks are using N1MM with the reporting clusters for field day:
http://bcdxc.org/ve7cc/fd.htm

Here are some field day pictures from some top scoring clubs:
#1 - Radio Amateurs of Northern VT.
http://www.ranv.org/pictures.html
You'll notice that they setup a tower for both CW and SSB and on each tower and looks like they have beams for the popular bands (perhaps 20M and 15M). See their pics from 2013 and 2012.

#3 - Newport County Radio Club
http://w1sye.org/?page_id=507
(Very well organized toward the bottom of the page with operator schedules, press releases, served agency invites, etc.)

# 5 Randallstown ARC (DC area)
http://icengineering.com/n3ic/rarc/fd14/
These guys use N1MM on laptops at each station all networked back to a master laptop with a synced database. Pretty cool stuff! I was also impressed with their post field day analysis performed from their log data so they could improve next year: http://icengineering.com/download?n3ic/r...fd2014.xls

#12 - Falmouth Amateur Radio Association (Cape Cod Area)
http://www.falara.org/fd/fdscore.html
They present an interesting breakdown of the contacts they made on each band and by mode.
http://youtu.be/RIdJRe3vlno (Youtube video of their 2013 field day site)
They use military surplus crank up towers for the beams.

Let's start making plans to improve our operations for 2015! Please share your thoughts hereSmile

Nice recon Joe.

I agree, let's make some plans to improve for next year.
We're already working on the poles situation at the Club, let's have some discussion about what antenna's to install on them.
And equipment upgrade too. A Quality Club such as ours can offer much more to our Members and Prospective Members. Some modern equipment may be in-order.

Maybe a Contest Committee to make recommendations on these and other possible suggestions?
The poles at the firehouse won't help us much for field day. Field day is an offsite field exercise with emergency power and conducted in a public place (like a public park) for higher visibility.

I'm all for getting gear we will use, but we'll need to discuss what we need and why our current gear doesn't meet our needs.

Perhaps you can start a contest committee thread in the contesting section of the forum. Let me know if I can help out.

Yeah I meant let's upgrade not just our Field Day ability but as a Contesting Station period including Field Day.
That G5RV did NOT tune up well on 10M. My Windom tunes 10M better. Good Bandwidth too: I can Tune mid-band and not have to retune on either end of the Band.

Don't forget we can also choose to operate as a class 2F station - this is usually a discussion point for a February or March meeting.

As a 2F, we can use all and any of our existing facilities including commercial power, except for a short period on battery or other emergency power for bonus points, and existing plus supplemental antenna equipment. Operating on the Yalesville hill gives a decided height advantage, allows for public viewing at the FH, and all the other benefits IMHO of Marcus Cooke.

Above all, remember that Field Day IS NOT a contest, but a "get out and vote" type activity. (Of course many of the 2200 entrants don't necessarily agree with me Undecided)

Let the dialog begin!

To all:
The items mentioned regarding Field Day, equipment and antenna replacement are all good topics for discussion.

I believe a real and honest discussion, on each item, is in order to see where the club wants to be in the future and how much commitment is truthfully behind it.

Gentlemen, we have a good club but a "hook" is always necessary to draw in and keep the interest of existing and new members.
All clubs and organizations have an ebb and flow. From my short time with the club it appears to me we are on the high road, lets not lose it, but enhance it.

Just my .02 cents

I still can't attend due to work, but this might help the ops.

A new video has been posted to the N1MM website on the website’s >Support
>Instructional Videos page.
http://n1mmplus.hamdocs.com/tiki-index.p..._Field_Day

Operating N1MM+ at Field Day was designed to educate club members and guest
operators about: Field Day, Contesting, and N1MM+. The customized screens and
logging sequences described in the 17 minute video may not be an exact match
for your Field Day operations, but should still prove helpful to hams
unfamiliar with any of those three topics.

Field Day Site Coordinators may want to download the 19 MB video and make it
available on a thumb-drive at their FD site (see download link at the bottom of
the page). If you would like my source PowerPoint slides for editing to match
your club’s operation, send me a request offline.

Steve, can you contact the League and ask them what points are available for copying MW transmissions (the 473 kHz/MW band)?

Bob WB1GYZ is following up on this for MARC.
