G3 (STRONG) GEOMAGNETIC STORMING OBSERVED
published: Wednesday, October 07, 2015 19:49 UTC
The anticipated and well-forecast coronal hole began to affect Earth early on 07 Oct 2015. Since then, G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm conditions have been observed at 07/1909 UTC (07/3:09 pm EDT) as a result. G1 - G2 (Minor - Moderate) geomagnetic storm conditions are expected to continue over the next 24-36 hours as Earth remains under the influence of this feature and isolated G3 (Strong) conditions are still possible.

As the disturbance continues, higher latitude regions should have a better chance to see aurora under clear skies during hours of darkness. Shown above is the Ovation Aurora Forecast model, a model that uses the upstream solar wind observations and makes a short-term (roughly 30 minute) prediction on the visibility of aurora. For best viewing, one should also be in an area free of light pollution (e.g. away from city lights).
