For Sale: 45G rotating tower/parts
#1
To all
From the YCCC reflector
Chet is a friend of mine and is moving to a new home.
Great tower project for someone.

Our son from TN was here last week and we successfully took down most of my
100’ rotating tower system in preparation for a move to a new house in CT.
I have decided not to put this system back up at the new QTH. That is
bittersweet since it has served me so well, but I have to admit that
climbing tall towers and handling 100 lb. antennas is not wise for me
anymore, and my back is still protesting from this past week’s effort.

My arrangement started with 50’ of non-rotating Rohn 45G, guyed at 25 and
50’. Atop this was an RTS (Rotating Tower Systems- K5IU) rotating base unit,
topped with another 50’ of Rohn 45G having an RTS guy wire bearing installed
at 80’. The result was a ~100’ tall tower of which the upper 50’ rotated.

Imagine! Fifty feet of climbable mast to attach directional antennas onto.
But wait, imagine even more! Put a top bearing, rotator, shelf, and tubular
mast in the top section, and get still more rotatable height, and be able to
point the antennas on this mast in a different direction when desired.
Forget having to put up multiple towers for more rotatable antennas, and
forget buying ring rotators for stacking antennas.

It looks like Custom Metal Works took over selling the K5IU design years ago
and you can still see it with some slightly newer versions of some
components at

http://www.custommetalworks.com/rts/rts_...oducts.htm

I am the original owner and had lubricated the bearings and chain yearly,
and never had a failure. All the RTS parts are BEEFY and are still in very
good condition. The mechanical limitations will be in the Rohn 45G, not the
RTS parts.

My most recent configuration on the rotating section had:
-5el 2M yagi at 109’
-5el 2M yagi at 102’
-3el 20M yagi at 98’
-4el 10M yagi at 92’
-5el 6M yagi at 84’
-3el 15M at 81’
-5el 6M yagi at 69’
-4el 10M at 58’
-3el 15M at 52’

Imagine having a 20M antenna and rotatable stacks for 2M, 6M, 10M, and 15M
on a single support tower! And at one time I had full size 40M rotating
elements on it too. A third 4el 10M was fixed at 30’ to make a triple stack
in its direction, a 40M horizontal dipole had one end attached at 50’, and a
40M sloping dipole was hung off the guy ring at 80’.

Use the RTS parts however you wish, ground mount them as a shorter 53’
rotating tower or put the rotating 50’ piece on top of a 100’ stationary
tower, or buy another guy ring assembly and go higher.

So, what am I asking?
The price for YCCC is $1500 for the RTS parts.

Need a rotator for it?
I have been using an old modified Hy-Gain HDR400 with a homebrew pushbutton
control and indicator box. Not real pretty but it worked. Buy this with the
RTS parts for another $100.

Need some 45G?
I will soon have available the 4 and ½ sections that were the bottom half of
the tower that had been painted brown to blend in with the background trees.
The brown is peeling but the galvanizing below looks good. $80 each. Come
and help take these down and I will discount their price.

I also have 4 sections that will need some work. They are sound but have
surface rust and will need to be painted or re-galvanized. $40 each.

Once I get around to dismantling my second fixed tower, I will have a few
more 45G and misc. parts available.

More info available upon request.

Chet, N8RA
